ByteDance is a Chinese technology company founded by Zhang Yiming in 2012. It is best known as the parent company of TikTok, the popular short-form video app, as well as its Chinese counterpart, Douyin. However, ByteDance has a broader range of products and services beyond TikTok.
One of ByteDance's earliest successful products was Jinri Toutiao, a news aggregation app that uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to personalize news content for its users. Jinri Toutiao quickly gained popularity in China and became one of the leading news apps in the country. ByteDance later expanded its portfolio with other media and entertainment apps, including Xigua Video and Huoshan Video.
TikTok, known as Douyin in China, was launched by ByteDance in 2016. It became a global sensation, especially among younger users, for its short video format and viral content. TikTok allows users to create and share 15 to 60-second videos set to music, along with a range of creative tools and effects. It has achieved tremendous success worldwide and has been downloaded billions of times across various app stores.
