The Stout Motor Car Company was an American automobile manufacturer founded by William Bushnell Stout in 1922. Based in Detroit, Michigan, the company aimed to produce innovative and unconventional vehicles. One of the notable designs by Stout Motor Car Company was the Stout Scarab, which was introduced in the 1930s. The Scarab was a futuristic, streamlined vehicle that incorporated several innovative features for its time, such as a rear-engine layout, all-aluminum body construction, independent suspension, and a spacious and luxurious interior. The design of the Scarab was ahead of its time and anticipated many features that would become common in later automobiles.

Despite its groundbreaking design, the Stout Scarab did not achieve commercial success. Only a small number of Scarab vehicles were produced, and the high production costs and limited demand led to the eventual discontinuation of the model. In addition to the Scarab, the Stout Motor Car Company also worked on other projects, including experimental aircraft designs and military vehicles. However, the company faced financial difficulties and struggled to maintain a sustainable business. Eventually, in the late 1930s, the company ceased automobile production and shifted its focus to other ventures, such as aircraft manufacturing.

Although the Stout Motor Car Company's production period was relatively short-lived, its designs, particularly the Stout Scarab, have gained recognition and appreciation among automotive enthusiasts and collectors. The innovative features and distinctive styling of the Scarab have made it an iconic symbol of automotive design.
